Industrial chiller machines are a type of machines that remove heat through vapour compression or absorption refrigeration cycle. The process involves installing several pumps, piping, condensers and other cooling systems. An industrial chiller machine utilizes either water vapour or absorption to exclude the heat out of liquids such as water, lithium bromide solution, inhibitors, glycol or other fluids. The equipment uses air, water or evaporation to cool the liquid.
Chiller equipment for different industrial applications can be decentralized or centralized. Each system has its own advantages. Decentralized chillers are usually small in size and have cooling capacity from 0.2 tons to 10 tons. Centralized chillers have cooling capacities from 10 tons to thousands of tons.
Most industrial chiller machines circulate about 400 tons of water, in big industrious facilities. Chillers of this type are usually large and bulky, thus, they are often fixed on roof tops and on the sides of buildings. These types of chillers are usually used when industrial and commercial buildings are planning to switch from city water since they have grown and expanded. At times, they are used as alternatives of evaporative cooling towers, given cooling towers allow refrigerant chemicals to come into contact with cooled water while in chillers (the refrigerants are kept within a closed circuit).
Uses of industrial chillers
Chillers are very useful in industrial field where there are usually millions of machines that produce a lot of heat. If you need these machines to last longer, they have to be cooled. This is where industrial chillers came in. chillers can be used to cool any machine that operates at 60 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. A cooling tower can be used to cool any process or machine that operated at 85 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. Some of the most common applications for chillers are:
Plastics- When it comes to plastic manufacturing, a chilling equipment is used to cool the hot plastics that are injected, blown, stamped or extruded. A chilling equipment can also be used to cool down the machine that is used to create plastic products.
HVAC- HVAC cooling expenses accounts to 30 % to 50% of the total energy expenses. There is a fast growing need to replace large commercial refrigeration and air conditioning systems with a modular industrial chilling system.
Printing- In printing industry, chiller machines not only eliminates the heat produced by the friction of the printing rollers, but cools down the papers after they comes out of the ink drying ovens in the process.
Beverage- When it comes to beverage, chiller machines are used to eliminate the heat generated from the process during mixing, cooking, or after purifying the beverages.
Rubber- in rubber industry, chiller machines are used to cool down the multi zone water temperatures control unit of the rubber extruder barrel. They are also used to cool the rubber mill, bambury mixers and calendars.
Medical- If a hospital is using a high tech machine for magnetic resonance imaging, blood cooling, laboratory testing and scanning, they will need a cooling system to eliminate all the heat gained.
