Pallet trucks are specially designed fort like trucks meant for lifting heavy materials. Their front wheels are usually placed on the inside right next to the forks at the front. Towards the back of most of these trucks is usually a hydraulic jack which is used to lift the pallet off the floor. They are least prone to tear and wear or breaking down since they are made using alloys of several durable metals such as galvanized steel, aluminum, special alloys, Zinc plating etc
How to use the truck?
Operating these trucks is very easy, it simply involves pushing the forks into the pallet and then using the jack part to lift the pallet right off the floor to whichever height is deemed fit. Upon successfully being lifted only then can you or whoever is operating can then move the truck.
Application areas
These trucks have been found to be most ideal for use especially by suppliers of heavy consumer cargo that includes any field from food, drink, computer, machinery, clothing etc. They are equally ideal for use in warehouses. Simply put, these trucks stand to come in handy in any industry which requires moving of large heavy pallets.
Types of pallet trucks
- Powered type
Commonly referred to as electrical pallet jacks, they are available either as single/double pallet jacks. They are motorized to allow for easy lifting and moving of heavy pallets. They are steered by the swinging of the handle in whichever intended direction.
- Printer type
This type is characteristic of a weighing mechanism which serves to allow for easy weighing of good after which the total weight can easily be printed out for other alternative use or future reference.
- Scissor type
This type is different from the other in the sense that they are designed to lift goods and pallets to higher areas. They are mostly used to stack shelves which are highest from the ground. Plus they are also the best for use in cases where the space is limited since they are able to easily manoeuvre. In addition to all of the above, they are also ideal for loading and offloading cargo off vans.
- Walk Behind Trucks
Just as the name suggests, using these trucks literary involves having to walk behind them while pushing the load place on it. The hydraulic systems are manually operated by an electric motor.
Pallet Truck Safety
In addition to all of the above, there are several other new technological innovation linked to pallet type of trucks. These innovations have so far proven to be an excellent addition to the durability, practicality and most importantly usability of these trucks. Two of the most notably innovation are the hydrogen powered electric pallet type truck by Wal-Mart and the Ac motor pedestrian powered truck by Mitsubishi.
